The expansion of UF Health Durbin Park in St. Johns County, Florida, marks a significant development in increasing access to advanced medical services across Northeast Florida. This major health and wellness campus, sprawling over 42.5 acres, has reached a critical milestone with the completion of its first phase. Stellar, a key player in the construction, spearheaded the project as the primary construction manager, while design efforts were led by Gresham Smith.
This initial phase features a three-story, 72,000-square-foot medical office building and a neighboring five-story, 220,000-square-foot hospital. The UF Health Durbin Park Medical Office Building 1 consolidates multiple specialty services, including general surgery, gynecology, heart and vascular care, and more, under one roof, enhancing the community’s healthcare offerings. Meanwhile, the adjacent hospital is equipped with 99 inpatient beds, a round-the-clock emergency department, and facilities for acute, intensive, and emergency care, including advanced imaging and hybrid laboratories.
Stellar also collaborated with Batson-Cook Construction in a joint venture to manage the hospital’s project, demonstrating its significant role in bringing this healthcare facility to fruition. Additionally, Stellar oversaw the construction of a standalone central energy plant, essential for providing critical infrastructure to the campus.
The UF Health Durbin Park project is part of a broader $1 billion investment by UF Health, anticipated to generate approximately 2,000 jobs. This development aims to serve the growing population of St. Johns County and Jacksonville, emphasizing the region’s expanding need for comprehensive healthcare services.
For Stellar, this project not only signifies a successful collaboration with UF Health but also showcases its growing footprint in major healthcare construction projects. The completion of this campus represents a pivotal step in meeting the healthcare demands of a rapidly expanding community.
