As the 2026 midterm elections approach, Anthropic is taking steps to enhance the reliability of election-related information available to the public. Announced on October 14, the company plans to update its Claude AI chatbot with official US voting information and election results, aiming to provide users with accurate data on voting procedures and help curb misinformation.
This initiative will see Claude AI utilize data from Democracy Works, a nonprofit organization that gathers voting information from state and local election authorities. When users inquire about voting procedures, the chatbot will draw on this comprehensive database to deliver relevant information. This update is expected to be accessible to US users later in October, ahead of the November elections.
Anthropic’s efforts also include integrating election results into the chatbot, enabling users to find information about electoral outcomes. The company emphasizes that the feature is designed to supply factual details about voting logistics, steering clear of endorsing candidates or guiding users on their voting choices. This approach is part of a broader strategy by AI companies to enhance the accuracy and trustworthiness of information during significant political events.
In an analysis of 250,000 US conversations on its platform, Anthropic found that discussions around politics, public policy, and social issues make up approximately 5.75% of the interactions. Election-specific conversations are less frequent, accounting for about 0.51%, with requests for voting recommendations being even rarer at 0.01%.
The upcoming midterm elections in November will determine seats in the US Congress and numerous state and local positions. By offering information sourced from official election bodies, Anthropic aims to help users navigate voting procedures and access results with greater confidence. The company anticipates a rise in election-related queries as Election Day nears, reflecting the growing interest in reliable election information.
