Trump to Review Advisers’ Consulting Work with Bosnia’s Republika Srpska

Date:

Amid reports of their work for the government of Republika Srpska, former US President Donald Trump has distanced himself from two of his senior political advisers. Chris LaCivita, who co-managed Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign, and James Blair, a former White House deputy chief of staff, have been identified as paid consultants for the Serb-majority entity within Bosnia and Herzegovina. Trump emphasized that both individuals operate as independent consultants and do not hold direct employment under him in capacities other than their consulting roles.

LaCivita and Blair’s activities included traveling to Republika Srpska ahead of local elections, where they reportedly provided political assistance to the government. The reports suggest they received substantial sums for their consultancy services. Despite their involvement abroad, both advisers maintain strong political ties with Trump and are active in supporting Republican candidates in the lead-up to the US midterm elections.

Trump acknowledged the potential for conflict of interest due to their work with a foreign government, stating he would review their external engagements and take necessary actions if any conflicts are identified. LaCivita’s significant role in Trump’s 2024 campaign and Blair’s previous position in the White House underscore their influence within Trump’s political circle.

Blair, currently on leave from his role at the White House, is assisting with Republican election efforts. Trump has indicated that Blair is expected to return to the White House post-midterm elections. This situation has prompted broader questions regarding the acceptability of political advisers engaging in outside consultancy while maintaining close ties to political operations and government positions.
